Happy Birthday to the Doctor and his Tardis

In this case I'm talking about myself, but the boat is the same age as me. After returning from a trip to Dry Tortugas and then a mini-trip to Port St Joe, I was thinking seriously about upgrading my electronics on the boat. The first box I needed to replace was the inverter which seriously smoked itself as I was leaving Destin. A full disassembly identified multiple power transistors that smoked and exploded, and several locations on the PCB had surface mount thingies that likewise smoked and exploded.  I decided to gove up on it and toss it.
As such, I decided to install a Go Power 1500 Watt pure sine inverter, and I'm going to install it according to my mantra of "if it's not tight it's not right". Conveniently, on my boat and just above the batteries a previous owner installed something that left 4x 1/4-20 bolts drilled and countersunk flush in the cockpit sidewalls.  I'll use these bolts to mount something whereby I can install the inverter vertically. Hopefully it all works out well, but it will require me to get into a pretty tight situation at some point.
Another birthday present is a replacement chartplotter and radar system.  I managed to sell my old radar and head unit for 300$, and I sold my old chartplotter for 450$ with its Navionics CF card. I likewise managed to sell the analog radar extension cable for another 120$, and eventually I'll remove the GPS puck and sell that too. Anyway all this fundraising has paid off, and I now have a new Raymarine E7D and 4 kw digital radar.
So, being excited yesterday I pulled the toys from their boxes and had to prove to myself that the radar worked.  I did a temporary wiring job and set the dome on deck and plugged it in.  It's marvelous when new toys work!
Plans for tonight are to climb the mast halfway to at very least hang the radome and get it out of the salon. I will also likely cut and machine out an adapter plate so I can mount the e7D in the hole left behind by the C70.
