ETA Musings

Sailing these moderately short distances, it’s strange how I feel about my ETA sometimes. So since yesterday up until about 2pm today, my ETA was in the early Friday morning time frame. That was great, and I knew better than to slow the boat down when it indicated I might even arrive Friday at 3AM. I knew the wind would shift and calm. It usually does. Well now I’m flying drifter and main just hoping to keep making 4 kts. The seas have flattened measurably and I think the transit through San Blas will be easy. If my progress dips much less than 4 kts, my ETA which I had hoped for in the morning shifts late into the afternoon and possibly past sunset. I’m fully aware that the current winds haven’t set themselves up yet, so I’m not worried. However if my speed drops below 3 kts around midnight then I will start the enging and steam home, just so I know I’ll make it. Given the flat seas I cooked corn and proccoli, following it with beef jerky and 5 types of dried fruit. It’s super lazy, and now I am feeling like taking a nap. After San Blas I’ll be entering and parallelibng the safety fairway. In my experience those things aren’t safe for me. That’s where big boats travel, so my Radar will certainly get a workout tonight.
